Why DETOX ?

Every day we are exposed toexternal toxins from our environment and internal toxins produced as thebyproduct of our digestive and metabolic processes. Toxic and unwantedinorgranic chemicals are found in our foods, water and air in the formof fertilizers, pesticides, heavy metals and other pollutants. Workingin climate controlled environments is a source of airbornemicroorganisms and debris and home and work environments expose usto paint and carpet fumes. Everything from plastic containers todry cleaned clothes to skin and haircare products and cosmetics bombardour bodies with unwanted pollutants. All of these fall in the categoryof environmental toxins.

Toxins come in various forms and manners; the one unifying thing about them all is that they are dangerous to your health. The exhaust from your automobile is known to be rich in carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide and medical scientists have shown that as little as 0.5% of these chemicals in the blood holds dangerous implication for health. Most of the technologically modified food you eat today contains different hormones and chemicals that interfere with normal body metabolism and in most cases, cause the system to malfunction. Metallic toxins such as mercury, lead and others can 'block' nutrients from entering cells and metabolic waste from leaving the cells, creating a favorable environment for cancer growth. Other minerals like potassium, sodium and the likes, can affect the function of the heart, when deficient or in excess and thus lead to any of the cardiovascular diseases. Well, in case you have never considered detoxification as a very healthy option, or you somehow don't believe in its efficacy, you need a serious re-think.

drink and DIET

Let’s look at drink and DIETing and start with the best drink of all first.

1. Water

Water pure and simple is the single best drink for losing weight and is the most important catalyist for weight loss in ANY DIET.

A DIETer should drink at least eight glasses of water.

2. Alcohol and soda

When DIETing, don’t drink to much alcohol or sodas that are high in sugar. They contain plenty of calories and also make you feel hungry. So moderation is the order of the day.

3. Coffee & Tea

Coffee is fat-free, but drinking it can be detrimental to DIETs why? – Because even though coffee in itself is fat-free, it is what can be added that hurts your DIET.

Low and fat free milk is fine, but avoid cream. Finally, go easy on the sugar, if you have a sweet tooth.

4. Green Tea

The benefits of drinking green tea can be seen through the high concentration of antioxidants that can be found.

Studies have also shown that the benefits of green tea for DIETing are visible when drinking just one cup a day and weight loss is speeded up.

5. Fruit Juices

When choosing a fruit juice while DIETing, you should always look at the nutritional information found on the label.

6. Milk

Milk contains calories but if used correctly in a DIET can help you lose weight. Make sure that you choose low or fat free varieties that contain far less calories

One of the reasons that milk helps some to lose weight because it makes you feel full. It also aids in bone strength, as well as lowers blood pressure and provides a load of other nutrients our bodies need.

Drinking Tea

Consuming two or more cups of tea a day over a period of time may reduce the risk of ovarian cancer dramatically, suggests a new study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine. And each additional cup of tea per day appears to provide significantly more protection, investigators found.
Researchers at Sweden's National Institute of Environmental Medicine, Karolinska Institutet, examined the association between tea consumption and risk of ovarian cancer in 61,057 women 40 to 76 years of age who took part in the population-based Swedish Mammography Cohort.

At baseline, 68 percent of the participants reported drinking tea -- primarily black tea -- at least once a month. During 15.1 years of follow-up, 301 women were diagnosed as having epithelial ovarian cancer. The researchers found tea consumption of two or more cups of tea per day had a significant inverse association with risk of ovarian cancer.

Specifically, women who drank two or more cups of tea per day experienced a 46 percent lower risk of ovarian cancer, compared with women who drank no tea. Each additional cup of tea was associated with an 18 percent decreased risk of ovarian cancer.

Potential benefits

- Reduced risk of heart attack and stroke, and improved blood vessel function;

- Less risk of certain cancers, including colorectal and skin cancers;

- Decreased levels of oxidative DNA damage and increases in antioxidant levels in the bloodstream; and

- Oral health benefits -- researchers believe certain compounds in tea may inhibit bacteria that cause bad breath and plaque, and the fluoride content in tea supports healthy tooth enamel.

Lung CANCER

Lung CANCER is called lung CANCER because it begins in the lungs. The right lung has three sections, the left lung has two. Each section is called a lobe. Sometimes the term “bronchogenic CANCER” is used to refer to lung CANCER as most lung CANCERs begin in one of the two breathing tubes, the bronchi, in the lungs.

There are two major types of lung CANCER. One is the Small Cell Lung CANCER (SCLC) mentioned in the previous paragraph. The other is Non-Small Cell Lung CANCER (NSCLC).

Non-Small Cell Lung CANCER has three subtypes: Adenocarcinoma, Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Large Cell Undifferentiated Carcinoma. NSCLC is the least “serious” of the two types. In fact, if it is detected early, it is possible that it can be cured with surgery.

Andenocarcinoma accounts for about 40 percent of lung CANCER cases in the U.S. It is the most common CANCER among women and can be seen in non-smokers. Squamous Cell Carcinoma represents about 30 to 35 percent of lung CANCERs and tends to stay localized in the chest longer than other types of lung CANCER. Large Cell Undifferentiated Carcinoma represents only about five to 15 percent of lung CANCERs in the U.S. The incidence of this type of CANCER seems to be decreasing.

The worst and most aggressive form of lung CANCER is Small Cell Lung CANCER. It represents only about 15 to 20 percent of all lung CANCERs. It spreads to the lymph nodes and other organs more quickly than NSCLC, but seems more responsive to chemotherapy drugs.

Non-Small Cell Lung CANCER is described in stages – Stage I through IV. WebMD recently reports survival rates of NSCLC as:

· Stage 1A or 1B with no lymph node involvement has a five-year survival rate of 43 to 64 percent when treated with surgery.

· Stage IIA or IIB with a single lymph node involvement, when treated with surgery, has a five-year survival rate of 20 to 40 percent.

· Stage IIIA with a single lymph node involvement in the center of the chest, when treated with surgery has a five-year survival rate of 15 to 25 percent.

· Stage IIIB with lymph node involvement in the chest and neck, when treated with radiation without other treatment, has a five-year survival rate of five to seven percent.

· Stage IIIB with lymph node involvement in the chest and neck, when treated with radiation and chemotherapy, has a five-year survival rate between seven and 17 percent.

· Stage IV with extensive lymph node involvement or CANCER that has spread to other organs, hen treated with chemotherapy and palliative care to reduce symptoms and increase comfort has a one-year survival rate.
